TOURNAMENT  The School Chess Association typically runs tournaments twice a month. The next tournament is on Feb 23 at Metcalf Middle School (about 20 minutes from Moreland), Cost is $22 for your first tournament but the Moreland chess club will pay half. I'm recommending this one because you play only children in your same grade making it easier for 1st, 2nd and 4th graders. I think Travis would do well. Be there before 8:30 to register at the door. We should be done by 3:00. No elimination - everyone plays 5 games. After the first round you'll be paired with someone with a similar record.

Today we reviewed pins and did a worksheet.
1) Look for two big pieces on a line
2) Attack the pinned piece with the smallest piece possible
3) Be patient with pins - make your opponent squirm under the pressure
4) You can pin pawns around a king for an effective attack
