1) Look for two big pieces on a line
2) Attack the pinned piece
3) Don't be in a hurry to capture the pinned piece - it's not going anywhere!
4) Pinning a pawn to a king can leave some of his squares unguarded.
Bonus idea: Figure out what your opponent wants to do, then DON'T LET HIM DO IT!
