The new chess season has begun. We had six at our first meeting. There were quite a few more We meet every Tuesday that school is in session in the IMC from 2:15 to 3:15
I have a rating system. There are three ways to earn points:
1) Attendnce - 5 points per club meeting
2) Problem solving - usually 2 points per problem solved correctly
3) Winning a game - depending on your opponent's rating your rating may go up a lot or a little
4) Getting a draw against a stronger player
You can also lose points by losing a game or drawing against a lesser rated player.
Ratings serve several purposes.
1. Students can see their progress
2. Students can be paired against someone of equal strength
3. It helps me if I have to select a team
4. It gives me an indication when children are ready for tournaments.
